KAPOW! ART CLUB for KIDS | Ages 7-12

Come and create with us! Art Club is perfect for the kid that loves to create- no special experience is necessary!

We cover a range of projects! Every school year has a different group of projects in drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, craft, and sculpture.  We explore materials and ideas, as well as build skills, appreciation, and understanding in the visual arts.  Art Clubs are Montessori-inspired.  This means small, child-centered, multi-age classroom environments (we now cap at 5 per class), where individualized choice-making is a part of our process. Every session includes a gallery exploration and discussion, where we visit Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts (just below our classroom). Students exhibit work monthly in our classroom gallery. No prorates or refunds due to the nature of small class sizes.

Choose from Tuesdays, Thursdays 4:45-6:15pm, or Saturdays 12-1:30pm.  Meets for 6 weeks total per session, 5 different themed sessions per year.

Art Journal, Exploration of Materials Based on a Theme:

Students will create a 12 page book that will be assembled and stitch bound at the close of the session. At the beginning, each student will choose a theme for their book (ex: flowers, space, spaghetti, Hanukkah, etc.) We will use both our library of images, mixed with internet searches, mixed with imagination and memory to create mini works of art on each page. We will ask ourselves what scenes, objects, colors, textures, phrases, words might be associated with each theme. Each class will offer a different group of art studio materials for the students to explore (watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, colored pencils, graphite, gel pens, ink, flat textures, stamps, fabric, oil and chalk pastels, specialty markers, etc).

Master’s Work Reproductions:

Looking at the work of master artists throughout history, each student will choose an artist/artist style to focus on. They will each choose a work from that artist and examine the composition, color, line, shapes, subject matter, and medium that the artist used. They will then be challenged to make their own version of the chosen master’s work- placing themselves ‘in the artist’s shoes’.  They will then create an original that borrows from what they discovered in their first reproduction. This is an excellent opportunity to explore and push outside of our comfort zones, ultimately expanding our possibilities for future art making. Each student will share their discoveries with the group. Paper works will be framed, and canvas works with have finished edges, ready to exhibit in your home.
